in case that happens to you... you crashed your system while installing
or removing software...
you package list is corrupt but there is a dirty hack to resolve the
problem:
terminal:
1) cd /var/lib/dpkg/info
2) * sudo rm %package_that_is_corrupt%.post*
* in my case here it was fakeroot so my line would be $ sudo rm
fakeroot.post*
* sometimes it only helps to $ sudo rm fakeroot.*
3) after that type $ sudo apt-get --purge -remove %package%
* in my case again $ sudo apt-get --purge -remove fakeroot
4) fakeroot will be removed without problems and you can reinstall correctly.
5) all should work again
