I have the same issue with the release canditate.

I tried installing with the alternate cd - which works, but even, as
soon as X starts (tried it even over the console) the maschine breaks
completely. (altough its still turned on - the fan keeps on spinning).
The same issue is with the live cd - booting process works until the
start of X - then it breaks. I tried searching and it's definitely not
the backlight issue because the machine completely dies.

Write failed: Broken pipe

I checked the Xorg.0.log but it is completely empty. The broken pipe is
almost immediately after the start of X. It worked until this release.
It is also a 243LC. I will try other other live cds and see which one
work and which ones do not. Only a hard reset works after it died. The
messages.log doesn't tell anything either - only the normal boot
process, there is no message at all when I try to start X.
