It's been a while; I have been studying for final exams (I'm a college student). I just came back to check today.
I saw the bug being reported at the GNOME Bugzilla and it appears they want it reported at bugs.freedesktop.org, correct? Another thing that I feel is very important to point out: Empathy is not simply forgetting changed alias names for contacts. It is not remembering new contacts at all after those initial ones I had already put in. I found that if you follow the steps for reproduction posted earlier, but at step 3 don't change the alias name, I still run into the same problem.
