It was quite possible a hardware problem. I have not been able to use the computer for a few months. When I get a chance to fix it I'll see what I can do re testing but I will probably end up with Windows server.

You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release (10.04)? Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- System locks up after period of time without activity https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362856 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After booting the system is stable whilst being used but after a period of inactivity it locks up and is unresponsive to the mouse and keyboard. I suspected the indexing function for the search (which caused a lock up when accessed) and removed the package for it but that did not fix it. I have also disabled the screen saver and have set the disks and screen to enter sleep mode as never.
