I am having the same problem. Whether the option is 640x480 or 320x240
makes no difference. I get about 2 picture updates then nothing. Same
localhost:8888 as others have tried. I reloaded webcam-server with no
luck. I did run updates after installing ubuntu.

As the original report says, I can restart webcam-server and I get the
next 2 pics and then it's frozen. Both WebcamStudio and Cheese see the
camera fine and show motion. WebCamStudio is working with uStream no
problem.

And to be clear, I'm entering either:

http://localhost:8888
localhost:8888
ky5u-two:8888 (note:ky5u-two is the computer's name)
http://ky5u-two:8888

What I see on all addresses above is the picture. When I hit F5 to
refresh or <cntrl><shift>r to refresh the browser, I get one maybe two
more images then it's frozen. Restarting webcam-server will give me two
more images then frozen again. Changing the webcam-server start script
parameter to 640x480 I see the change when I restart the program. So
the program is getting its parameters from the script. Changing the
port to 8080 works. Changing the comment works. But nothing fixes the
freeze issue.

I did notice that originally after installing ubuntu, when I entered
"sudo apt-get install webcam-server" I got "E: Couldn't find package
webcam-server". I ran update this way to fix and get the webcam-
server package: "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install webcam-
server".

I used webcam-server on this PC successfully before a disk crash. I put
in a spare drive, and reinstalled ubuntu using the whole drive as I had
before. This time as described, webcam-server does not work properly.

Hope I didn't overload you with info and thanks for listening. I can be
reached at ky5u(at)bellsouth.net.
