I tried to reproduce this using 20100427.1 by dropping everything but DNS:
sudo iptables -A INPUT -p udp --sport 53 -j ACCEPT
sudo iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 53 -j ACCEPT
sudo iptables -A INPUT -j DROP
The installation had the expected behavior (that we fixed in apt
0.7.25.3ubuntu7). APT calls timed out on the first request within the
run, then immediately failed on subsequent requests. The install
obviously took a short amount longer, but the difference could be
measured in seconds or minutes, not hours.
However, we included 0.7.25.3ubuntu7 in the RC, so I'm not convinced
this test is sufficient to say that the bug is already fixed.
