> This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
I could, but would I need to reinstall from the CD in order to satisfy your curiosity? I have upgraded daily along the way, so my system is current. I still have problems. With 2.6.32-20-generic the problem persists. With 2.6.32-21-generic wont boot. I see the Plymouth "Ubuntu"-splash screen, then the screen turns blank. The system doesn't in fact boot, rather I can hear the fan "go wild" - which shouldn't be the case since the machine isn't working - and normally the fan isn't being used at all. The way I solved the problem was to use a 2.6.34 backport.
