** Description changed: This is similar to bug 162671, but it is the VT6655 which also not supported under similar circumstances (via has released code, but it is only for ubuntu 9.04). It appears in the git for later kernels. I was able to follow instructions in the other bug thread and get the vt6656 module to compile, but that does not help me as my hardware is VT6655. It is also a USB based wireless 'card' and is built into the computer I am using. I have compiled the latest via driver (for 9.04) and wireless works, but the driver complains and hangs when I try to shut down the machine requiring a power switch to reboot (the error appears related to acpi and a mismatch in what is being sent and what it understands). I could reply to VIA on this, but since it appears that this card is supported under a later kernel, any help backporting this would be appreciated. I did try a similar edit to the Makefile in the git repository, as was mentioned in the other bug list, but did not have any joy. Trying to get it working under ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-20 I found the git here: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/linville/wireless-2.6.git;a=tree;f=drivers/staging/vt6655;h=06265fc3c835e2fbec0bf8f6eefbfb36236f5147;hb=HEAD Via driver here: http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VT6655_Linux_src_v1.20.02_x86.rar + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21. + Architecture: i386 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USER PID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: icon 1169 F.... pulseaudio + CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'ICH7'/'Intel ICH7 with ALC655 at irq 17' + Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC655 rev 0' + Components : 'AC97a:414c4760' + Controls : 41 + Simple ctrls : 26 + CurrentDmesg: + [ 8.374850] lp: driver loaded but no devices found + [ 8.397393] ppdev: user-space parallel port driver + [ 17.553035] eth0: no IPv6 routers present + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=187f309d-00e1-421b-881d-01fd9e48ecd5 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" - Release Candidate i386 (20100419.1) + IwConfig: + lo no wireless extensions. + + eth0 no wireless extensions. + + eth1 no wireless extensions. + MachineType: PhoenixAward 945GSE + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic root=UUID=2f504e6c-1a9b-4c77-abdf-906745543ffe ro quiet splash nomodeset vga=792 + ProcEnviron: + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-21.32-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 + Regression: No + RelatedPackageVersions: linux-firmware 1.34 + Reproducible: Yes + RfKill: + + Tags: lucid networking needs-upstream-testing + Uname: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic i686 + UserGroups: + + dmi.bios.date: 09/25/2009 + dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies, LTD + dmi.bios.version: 6.00 PG + dmi.board.name: 945GSE + dmi.board.vendor: PhoenixAward + dmi.board.version: 6.0 + dmi.chassis.type: 3 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologies,LTD:bvr6.00PG:bd09/25/2009:svnPhoenixAward:pn945GSE:pvr6.0:rvnPhoenixAward:rn945GSE:rvr6.0:cvn:ct3:cvr: + dmi.product.name: 945GSE + dmi.product.version: 6.0 + dmi.sys.vendor: PhoenixAward ** Attachment added: "AlsaDevices.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/46077416/AlsaDevices.txt -- VT6655 wireless chipset is unsupported https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559697 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
