** Description changed:

- This is a PulseAudio bug.
-
- After I upgraded to ALSA 1.0.22.1 I didn't have sound anymore. This was
- due to the 'speaker' volume set at 0%, or -64dB.
+ After I upgraded to ALSA 1.0.22.1 I didn't have sound anymore. This was due
to the 'speaker' volume set at 0%, or -64dB.

Changing volume on the PulseAudio Controls change the values in amixer,
but not the speaker value. It even can turn the speaker strem on and
off, but doesn't change its value.

Result: after an ALSA upgrade I didn't have sound output. Using the
Sound Preferences in Ubuntu (which means calling pulseaudio volume
control) didn't give me sound back.

I can't file this against ALSA, since ALSA sound is indeed working
  perfectly.
