Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: open-vm-tools

The manpage for the vmhgfs module states that the user can place the following
line in their /etc/fstab file to have the shared folders mounted at boot time:
host:/ /mnt/hgfs vmhgfs defaults 0 0

However, previously in the same document and also from other
documentation and error messages the correct line would be

.host:/ /mnt/hgfs vmhgfs defaults 0 0

(Notice the leading period)

Finally, it should be noted that the user must also create the mount
point /mnt/hgfs. Users who have previously used the VMware Guest Tools
provided by VMware have this done for them and may not realize it at
first.

This was tested on 10.04, but I noticed that this typo appears in
previous releases as well.

** Affects: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
