tried today using Feisty with latest updates, and I can confirm the bug.
I've investigated a bit, and found that in the file '~/.recentently-used.xbel'
which, I suppose, contains all recent opened apps, for the entry related to the
pdf located in a smb share, have this:

Should the mime-type contain 'application/pdf'? Setting the mime-type as
'pdf' instead 'octet-stream' I can open the file correctly.
