I also experienced the similar issue in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS that I downloaded this morning. When I was at screen 8/8 of the installation wizard, I was not able to select the Linux partitions to install the bootloader.
All other partitions (primary or extended) selected had the OK button enabled (meaning other partitions can be selected for installing bootloader).
