At first the RC1 had the same behavior: no wireless.
Then I searched for this bug in the launchpad database. A certain bug (don't 
remember which) had a comment on enabling the wireless interface in the bios 
setting.
I rebooted, entered the ASUS bios, set wlan to ON, and then it worked.

Important: the linux distribution I have installed does not care wheter wlan is 
set in bios or not. This (Lucid Lynx) does. It is not a bug, but some users are 
perhaps having the same problem (566496, 555807,  554135, 548539 seem to be the 
case). How can users be advised that Lucid Lynx cares about wlan bios setting?
