This is the best fix I found after an hour on Google

I was dual-booting 9.10 with Windows 7 and it was giving me the
grub_puts_ error after upgrading to 10.04. Luckily I found this side
that had a 3 line command fix. Used my 9.10 disk for it and worked like
a charm. I love the Linux community!
