Hello Together Unfortuntatly I'm also facing this problem with the new Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop ISO and Alternate ISO. After trying all possible described ways above I have killed my Fakeraid and installed 10.04 with a Softwareraid. At least I have now my new system back up running. Windows on a second partition is now requirement for me.
