Sorry to say, I made sure the headphones worked on u-know-what O/S.
Just trinary problem reduction.

I upgraded to 10.04 but still can't get there from here.  I CLI'ed the
System->preferences->default sound card and got:

~$ /usr/bin/asoundconf-gtk
sh: /usr/bin/asoundconf: not found
You need to make sure asoundconf is active!
By default, asoundconf's configuration file is ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf
and must be included in ~/.asoundrc. Open this file to make sure it is!
~$

The interface seems to be recognized, cause when I plug it in I get:

~$ cat /proc/asound/modules
 0 snd_atiixp
 1 snd_atiixp_modem
 2 snd_usb_audio
~$

But I can't seen to see the USB in gnome (screen shots attached).
