Sorry to be a pita, but I have made a similar comment in bug #93648 and I repost it here reversed, just in case the testers and developers of the 2 bugs have no interaction: Bug #93648 has the same symptoms (modprobe abnormal exit) with the present one and both seem to be related to ICHx Intel chipsets.
The strange thing is that this one is declared "fix released" while the other is still in heavy debugging. Could the testers and developers please have a look at the above bug activity? >From the discussion in bug #93648 it seems that ICH6 and ICH8 don't boot, while ICH7 is rather fixed.
