Binary package hint: gnome-media
When I try to adjust the output volume with gnome-volume-control or
gnome-volume-control-applet, both the Master and PCM are affected. To
reproduce:
1. open gnome-volume-control or gnome-volume-control-applet
2. open alsamixer (in a terminal) or gnome-alsamixer
3. use the slider in gnome-volume-control or gnome-volume-control-applet to
change the volume
At this point, the Master slider in (gnome-)alsamixer should move along
with the gnome-volume-control slider you are manipulating. What I am
seeing instead is *both* the master and PCM sliders moving.
The end result to the user is that the first volume step up from mute is
quite loud.
This problem does not occur if I change the sliders in alsamixer or
gnome-alsamixer.
The error first showed during the Ubuntu 9.10 cycle (it did not exist
for previous releases), and it still exists in 10.04. I don't have it in
Windows XP.
I am using a Dell Inspiron E1705/9400 laptop with the snd-hda-intel
kernel module. My codec is:
