Same problem here on my Asus K50ij notebook. Adjusting brightness does not work, and when pressing a few times to change it, the notification for changing brightness appears every 15 seconds or so, but does not increase, or decrease the brightness. now after pressing that, i plugged in my ac-adapter and the battery icon does not change to charging, and i think because its still busy to change the brightness, because the brightness notification still pops on after every 10-15 sec. major bug, if you ask me
