I agree wholeheartedly.  In many previous versions of Ubuntu clicking on
the volume applet was enough to bring up a window which then made
scrolling possible.  Now I have to hover over the volume slider in order
to get scrolling to work.

Also, is there a way to make the steps that the sliders takes less
coarse?  I think right now there are about 20 steps from 0-100% and I'd
like to have at least 40ish.  Otherwise I'm looking at 5-10dB for a few
of the steps on the low end and fractional dB on the top end of the
adjustment.
