It was also noticed in the post he linked by Chauncellor himself, that visiting Launchpad website in Firefox may slow down effects again... (I'm writing this from office in Windows, so I can't reproduce right now!) I'll try it again this evening at home, but yesterday the "Launchpad slowdown" happened to me even with settings startup entry disabled.
