Thanks Conal, Kubuntu recognizes and acceses removable media without problems on my powerbook, too. I therefore changed the package to gnome-mount (may have no effect eithter ...). The only way gnome recognizes dv/cds seeems to restart with the medium in tray. Cheers, Stefan p.s.: The problem remains the same with Lucid. If I'm smart enough, I'll assign it.
