I don't know if this is connected, but upon upgrade from Karmic to Lucid users are presented with a choice of all their partitions with a caption "Grub install devices" (see the attachment). Maybe because the previous screen with more detailed info has not been translated yet, some users did not fully understand what it meant and installed Grub onto their Win boot sector leaving it unbootable. IMO partitions should not be displayed unless requested by the user.
