Hi,
I have a simular problem. I changed my password on the server and thunderbird
noticed that the old password don't work anymore (correct!). I entered my new
password and all is fine on IMAP. I got all my mails. But if I'm trying to send
an email, the same password don't work with thunderbird (it works with
evolution). No caps-lock or something...
Other test-passwors like 123456 works on thunderbird too. The problem is
password value dependent.

I reckon thunderbird can't handle language specific special keys like €
ü ö ä ß Ü Ö Ä (in germany for example) with SMTP.
