Public bug reported:
Ubuntu 10.04
Dell Latitude D505
Trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell Latitude D505. Ran a self-
check on the CD and no errors were found.
I tried the following:
1. Booted from CD and pressed ESC on the purple screen with the two icons at
the bottom of the screen.
2. I was prompted to select a language and I selected "English"
3. Usual options appeared, I selected "Install Ubuntu"
4. I pressed ESC to look at the background messages and noted the following
text on the screen:
(process:300): GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)
stdin: error 0
5. Installation proceeded but after a time I got unrecognizable characters on
the screen and then a black screen
6. Computer did not reboot but stayed powered on with a black screen.
Computer is unresponsive.
I repeated this process and set the boot options to acpi=off and noapic
but got the same result.
