Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

1. Release: Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid Lynx

2. Package gnome-control-center 1:2.30.0-0ubuntu4

3. Using the standard German keyboard layout, I added an .xmodmap to my
home directory to modify some of the keybindings. No problems so far.
Then I opened the gnome keyboard properties and added a second layout:
German NEO2.

Expected behaviour: Addition of a second keyboard layout.

Unexpected result: As soon as this change was completed, the Desktop
theme unexpectedly switched from Human-Clearlooks to another theme,
Glider or the new blue default theme, I think. The theme could not be
changed back until the 2nd keyboard layout was removed, and even it
changed only partially (colours), requiring a re-login to get the icons
to change back.

This bug has been replicated faithfully on this system redeatedly. It
only occured while the xmodmap was active. Removing the xmodmap (which
was working with no noticable errors) from the home directory eliminated
the bug and made changing the layout possible without unintended
consequences. I am including the .xmodmap file.
