i'm afraid -12 also crash :(

i don't know if this is of interest, but:
i boot with "noapic" as if i don't it'll crash as soon as i click "boot" (i'll 
get some "kernel mapping" text at the bottom of the screen and it's stuck 
there, no splash image or anything).
unless i boot with "irqpoll" i'll get a nice stacktrace in dmesg and the mouse 
& keyboard (both usb) will become quite "lagged" (mouse pointer jumping all 
over the screen, no smooth movement) after some time. here's the stacktrace:
