I can't see any way -18 could be ok and -19 bring up this issue at all
at least from the drm side. Virgil, can you please try a few mainline
kernels without updating any userspace components in between and see if
they can reproduce it?

This one should not exhibit the slowdown problem if it is really a problem in 
the kernel drm:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.33.1-lucid/

And additionally If this one works, it would point the finger at a ubuntu 
specific patch:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.12.3-lucid/
