That's just never going to work :).
The problem is that you've got the nvidia drivers installed, which
replace bits of X in a way that breaks all other drivers, such as your
radeon driver.
The question is now: how did the upgrade come to install the nvidia glx
drivers? Can you post the output of “aptitude why nvidia-current”? Do
you have any of the libmyth* packages installed?
