Confirmed that eliminating TKIP from the access point config cured the
problem, now just using WPA2/AES. Fortunately I have control over the
access point. Also fortunately my Debian machine set up using TKIP
still works with CCMP allowed.
Shame such a horrible regression on such common hardware went
unacknowledged for so long . . . still there is a workaround, I think.
