Same problem on 30 Asus EeePc's 900a used in classroom.

Problem exists in both karmic and lucid.

Intially, icons are in rows of 4 across the screen. When I add Edubuntu
packages, in Education, Games and System (including Preferences and
Administration), the rows change to 3 icons across the screen, and icons
will be cut off at the bottom of the screen.

When I add the applications individually, the icons initially appear
correctly, 4 across, but on reboot, the icons exhibit the same problem,
rows of 3, cut off at the bottom.

In the past, I've been able to uncheck some of the less important
applications in Main Menu to hide them, and have students work with the
remaining applications. On a new Asus Eeepc 1001p, same problem, except
now unchecking the icons in Main Menu has no effect. Icons do not go
away, even after reboot. Revert does not work.

There is some indication that certain of the application icons are more
problematic, i.e., the ones from KDE.

>From my point of view, problem has become serious. Students will be able
to access certain apps only from the command line.
