I would like to mention that I agree with him : the average user have no idea of what a kernel is, which one to remove, and why an update cannot be done when /boot is full. Keeping only the previous kernel would be largely sufficient.
- Say user installs ubuntu from scratch, it gets 1 stock kernel, kernel-0 - An update to that kernel is made : kernel-1 is installed, and kernel-0 is kept. - Another update pushes kernel-2, kernel-0 is erased because kernel-1 is in use during update - Say kernel-2 has a problem : user choose kernel-1 by default and continue working with that one. - Another update pushes kernel-3 : kernel-2 is erased since kernel-1 is in use during update ; the computer now has only two kernels, kernel-3 and kernel-1 - etc...
