Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gecko-mediaplayer
Sometimes, but not always, gecko-mediaplayer sets the PCM volume control to maximum when it starts up. It doesn't ask permission. I normally have this level set to a bit less than half maximum because of distortion caused by a driver issue at higher volumes, so the effect is very noticeable. I'm not quite sure how to reproduce this problem with 100% success, but I have managed to get it a few times at http://archives.cbc.ca/society/crime_justice/topics/3741/ The video which starts playing when I first load the page doesn't touch the volume, but I have got the blast of distorted sound when I have clicked on some of the audio clips from the scrolling band just below the player. I also got the effect after I restarted the player after it had appeared to crash, but I can't remember the exact steps I went through to do this.
