I had the same exact issue on my 1005HA when I had my /home encrypted
during install.

I believed it was caused by an eee-tray applet I had installed - and
because of that + a few other things, I decided to nuke it and re-
install.

That was in Beta 2 - since then, I have re-installed and do not have an
encrypted home, and I have a separate issue that I believe may possibly
shed some light on an underlying issue

When I close the lid, select suspend from the top right login button, or
hit function 1 (hotkey for sleep) everything works fine.

But i have power settings set up to suspend after 5 minutes idle.  Any
time that kicks in the computer goes into hibernate.  I would speculate
that an encrypted /home (which prevents hibernation) might be what was
causing my issues that appeared to be the exact same ones you describe.
