I have the similar problem after updating to 10.04. Don't know if this helps, but: this occurs only on my Asus 1005HA-H with 32-bit Ubuntu. On my other PC (Desktop with 10.04 - 64 bit, I'll post exact configuration if necessary), I don't have this problem.
