The logs show that the crash was caused by corrupted code having
mysteriously appeared in the /sbin/shadowconfig script. The only real
way that can happen in this particular context is if there's been a
problem reading from the CD or a problem writing to the hard disk. This
is generally due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive or a faulty hard disk,
rather than being an installer bug as such. It may help to clean the
CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive
lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers), to
check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to
move the system to a cooler environment.
