** Description changed: I am using Ubuntu 10.4 (but the problem probably exists since 7.10 at least). I use a broadband modem to connect to the Internet, to which my computer is connected via an ethernet (RJ45) cable. Steps to reproduce : 1. Unplug ethernet cable from computer ; 2. Turn computer on ; 3. Boot ubuntu (2.6.32-21-generic) with acpi support enabled (ie. not explicitly disabled) ; 4. When logged in, plug ethernet cable into computer. Result : the network-manager icon starts animating (to indicate activity), and the computer hangs after less than 1 second ; there is no response to any stimulus (except hard poweroff). This problem also arises if I prevent Gnome, its network manager and GDM to automatically launch and start the network manually. - However, this problem does not arise if Ubuntu is booted with the - options "acpi=off noacpi" added to the boot command. + However, this problem does not arise if Ubuntu is booted with the options "acpi=off noacpi" added to the boot command. + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21. + Architecture: i386 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USER PID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: yann 1206 F.... pulseaudio + CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'IXP'/'ATI IXP rev 1 with ALC658D at 0xfbdfc800, irq 5' + Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC658D' + Components : 'AC97a:414c4781' + Controls : 38 + Simple ctrls : 24 + Card1.Amixer.info: + Card hw:1 'Modem'/'ATI IXP Modem rev 1 at 0xfbdfcc00, irq 5' + Mixer name : 'Silicon Laboratory Si3036,8 rev 7' + Components : 'AC97m:53494c27' + Controls : 3 + Simple ctrls : 3 + Card1.Codecs.codec97.0.mc97.1.1: + 1-1/0: Silicon Laboratory Si3036,8 rev 7 + + Extended modem ID: codec=1 LIN1 + Modem status : GPIO MREF ADC1 DAC1 PRE(ADC2) PRF(DAC2) PRG(HADC) PRH(HDAC) + Line1 rate : 8000Hz + CurrentDmesg: + [ 23.542191] eth0: no IPv6 routers present + [ 79.053152] Marking TSC unstable due to cpufreq changes + [ 79.053233] Switching to clocksource jiffies + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=eec972dc-9b42-42e1-8620-d51e584ca1f7 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) + IwConfig: + lo no wireless extensions. + + eth0 no wireless extensions. + Lsusb: + Bus 003 Device 003: ID 04d9:1603 Holtek Semiconductor, Inc. + Bus 003 Device 002: ID 045e:0084 Microsoft Corp.
