Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Booting from a fresh 10.04 Desktop i386 cd. System comes up normally until a
the mouse is hovered over an icon (eg: firefox or help default icon) and a
tooltip is generated. The system then locks up. Unable to start a virtual
terminal with ctrl-alt-f1-6.
System responds to alt-sysreq-REISUB and can reboot.

After following the suggestions on the troubleshooting portion of the
wiki the logs seem to fill up with this stuff:

Adding nouveau.noaccel=1 as a kernel boot parameter results in a
successful boot and I am unable to reproduce the freeze.

Expected behaviour: Desktop doesn't freeze when hovering mouse pointer over
icon when using nouveau driver in accelerated mode.
Actual behaviour: Desktop freezes when hovering mouse pointer over icon when
using nouveau driver in accelerated mode.
