I think I remember reading that, by default, the Grub 2 menu does not display in Ubuntu Jaunty unless you reconfigure it to display. It just defaults to Ubuntu. This might only be the case when you have only one OS installed. Can't remember. In any case, it's failure to appear may be related to some of those settings.
