Martin, I think the difference should be clear if you compare the other
software I reference.

The intermediate steps (using file-roller on open, and a confirmation on
save) are NOT necessary using the other applications, and in fact the
concept of "manipulating an archive" is not raised at all. Users only
perceive that, for example, "example.svg.gz" created with Inkscape is
smaller than "example.svg". The file opens directly in Inkscape.

This *is* a wishlist item: nothing is broken, I am only requesting more
streamlined functionality.
