File size limit removed by editing the file /etc/smb.conf on the OSX machine and removing ",darwin_streams" from the line :
vfs objects = notify_kqueue,darwinacl,darwin_streams So it seems that named streams on OSX 10.6.3 shares are causing the 2 GB size restriction in this instance.
