After install of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS I noticed that Acronis True Image 8.0 spotted a partition error in /, although both my Windows Xp and Ubuntu 10.04 start up Ok and work fine. After a week of trying I ended up with an erased [including MBR] first disk drive, where I reinstalled Windows from an image and Ubuntu 10.04 from a .iso install CD. Again, same error. I concluded that grub2 blows my partition table. Then I reinstalled Ubuntu 8.04, and no more problem occurred with Acronis, so no partition error. I conclude that Grub2 corrupts the partition table in the MBR. Can Grub not be put back instead of this Grub2 thing?
