same thing here. I had this issue during the initial upgrade from karmic to lucid too, I needed to reboot and run dpkg manually to finish the upgrade then. -- package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12 failed to install/upgrade: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal.
