Public bug reported:
Xubuntu Lucid 10.04 kernel 2.6.32-22 generic Incomplete transfer of big files
to SDcard and usb peripherals
Is this Bug #483343 ?
It is a really major bug anyway, one can definitely lose data !
My experience (Eeepc 4G)
- thru copy/paste in Thunar's window, a 24 MB avi file is apparently transfered
to SDcard in no time
- the transfered file can immediately be played by the multimedia player from
SDcard
- nevertheless the file was NOT physically entirely transfered
- proof : 1/ endless wait at system shutdown after many flushing messages
"cannot write byte..." on terminal screen
2/ then, after reboot (and a very long disk check process) the file on SDcard
can no longer be read by the multimedia player (it may even no longer exist if
transfered in a batch with other files) !
Note 1 This Lucid bug also shows up when transfering "big" files to usb
peripherals.
Note 2 Hardy (w latest kernel) has similar problems BUT the physical file
transfers do complete after some time, which makes a very big difference.
