Go to Tools / Messages / Object tree and make sure 'interface "dbus"' is
listed. Otherwise, one-instance mode cannot work.
You can check what's wrong from the CLI and paste the results:
# vlc -vv --one-instance
and
# vlc --list
Note that you need to restart VLC after you've enabled single-instance
mode.
