I am actually on an Acer Aspire One and had this problem (I think I was back on Jaunty at the time). I got it fixed by upgrading to the newer version of x.org, if I can recall. I haven't had any problems with cheese since. I upgraded to Karmic just fine but I haven't moved up to Lucid yet. Soon.
