I have the same problem on an HP Pavilion dv9560 laptop. However, when I
press the touchpad on/off button, not only does the keyboard become
unresponsive but I can no longer access the applications menu (whether I
left-click on it with my mouse or press alt+f3). Also, when using my
mouse after the problem occurs, right-click doesn't do anything, and the
only things I can left-click on are on the taskbar.

I use an HP dv9560 with Ubuntu lucid upgraded from Karmic.
