Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Running 2D version. Everything is fine until some process calls nautilus
at which point nautilus takes over the desktop, i.e just desktop
background + desktop icons show, the vertical tabs with the program
groups (e.g. Favourites, Internet etc.) have been drawn over.

Workaround: Run gconf-editor and under apps - nautilus - preferences;
unset show_desktop key

Bye
