Solved.
For the record, add to /etc/X11/xorg.conf, section Device, this line
Option "NvAGP" "1"
The entire section now looks like this:
Section "Device"
Identifier (may differ)
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
BoardName (may differ)
Option "NvAGP" "1"
EndSection
