Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kubuntu-default-settings
Kubuntu lucid, kubuntu-default-settings of package version 1:10.04ubuntu23.1 from lucid-updates. Images linked taken randomly from Google Image search hits. The Kubuntu plymouth logo text image factors in the Kubuntu gears at the end of the 'kubuntu' text when determining where the center of the logo is, making the actual name of the distro off-center of the screen. This is in comparison to the Ubuntnu plymouth logo text, which favors the 'ubuntu' text. 1. See http://digitizor.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/plymouth4.png. Note how the first and fifth progress dots are aligned with the first and second 'u' in 'kubuntu', making the text off-center of the screen. 2. Compare with http://www.indigo-bird.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/boot.png. Note how the first and fifth progress dots are aligned identically to how they are in the Kubuntu logo, despite the 'kubuntu' text having an extra character. To illustrate it in text, imagine that the pipes in the following examples mark the center of the screen. You may want to copy/paste this into a text editor, or somewhere where you can view them in a fixed- width font. kubu | ntu* . . . . . ubu | ntu* . . . . . I haven't had a look at the source image, so I can't say if the designer reused the Ubuntu theme image and prepended a 'k' to the beginning of the 'ubuntu' text, and then just replaced the Ubuntu logo with the Kubuntu gears - or if the logo placement is hardcoded somewhere in a way that favors the width (and padding) of the Ubuntu theme. It's obviously a design decision, but I'd say the Kubuntu logo should be padded to center the 'kubuntu' text, to mirror the behavior of the Ubuntu logo plymouth theme. The Ubuntu behavior makes much more sense to my eyes. ** Affects: kubuntu-default-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kubuntu plymouth logo text is centered with gears sign factored into total width, placing 'kubuntu' text off-center https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580571 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kubuntu-default-settings in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
